WorldSkills UK is on the hunt for talented individuals to take part in this year’s series of competitions, where the best skilled people in the country will battle it out against each other to be crowned the UK’s best. WorldSkills UK is open to young people and adults who have gained, or are working towards, vocational skills. Competitors must enter online by Friday 19 March 2010 at WorldSkills UK website for most skills. Anyone of any age can enter the WorldSkills UK competitions, but it doesn’t stop there. If entrants were born on or after 1 January 1989, and enter this year, they could also be in with the chance of representing the UK at the skills equivalent of the Olympics – WorldSkills – when it is held in London in 2011. The WorldSkills Competition, which is the biggest international skills competition in the world, takes place every two years. This year is the last chance for people to get involved in WorldSkills London 2011, as competitors invited to compete in UK finals held before 5 July 2010 may have a chance of being selected for inclusion in a shortlist for the international competition.
Just as the potential stars of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games limber up for their chance of glory, so too will the group of highly skilled young people vying for a place on the UK team. It’s no small task because WorldSkills is huge. Over 1200 competitors from 50 countries/nations from across the globe will be taking part at WorldSkills London 2011. This is a chance for skilled young people to try out for that team. The WITForum and the BWF are urging members to put their apprentices up for the competition.
