The Woodworking Industry Training Forum (WITForum administered by the British Woodworking Federation (BWF has announced that the second in the planned series of management and supervisory courses will be taking place at training provider Didac’s new purpose-built Woodwise Academy in Bristol on 21-22 September. For three years, the WITForum has been working with quality training provider, Everywoman to offer training courses in the key management skills necessary to run a successful joinery company. Supported by ConstructionSkills, the course taking place in September has been carefully tailored by the WITForum to meet the needs of the industry and ensure that delegates get the most out of the training. The two-day course, open to both members and non-members, will cover leadership skills, teambuilding, negotiating, sales, customer service and conflict resolution, providing delegates with the skills they need to succeed in a management role. Nick Gosling, Director of Woodhill Joinery Ltd, attended the course held in Loughborough in September 2009 and said: ‘My management skills are essentially self-taught, so it was interesting to learn the theory behind what makes a good manager. The course helped me to brush up on my management skills and facilitated the exchange of ideas and problem solving. I would recommend the course to anyone new to a management role, as well as those higher up – I thoroughly enjoyed it!’ Manager of the WITForum, Dave Campbell, says: ‘Our members are always telling us how they have benefited from the management and supervisory courses over the past three years, and so I am delighted to be able to continue them this year with the support of ConstructionSkills. With their backing, we are able to offer the training at a hugely subsidised rate of just £90 for members and £180 for non-members. On top of this, those attending the course will be given the opportunity to continue their professional development with an NVQ 3 in Management which we are offering completely free of charge.’ ‘The course is suitable for those who are new to management and supervisory roles, as well as those who would simply like to look again at their management techniques, and perhaps learn some new skills to boot. The industry needs to invest in training to build for the future, and this is a great way to up-skill your existing workforce at a discounted rate. Places are limited, so book quickly to avoid disappointment!’ For more information on the course or to find out how to book your place, log on to Here.
