I hoped you enjoyed the recent members day. Mighton, as one of the co sponsors certainly did. It was a great opportunity to meet up with some existing customers and also to chat with potential new ones.

Unfortunately we did not get the chance to speak with everyone who attended the event and so we thought it may be helpful to send out a general message to update everyone with what we are doing.

As you are all aware, Part L of the building regulations has been amended and takes effect from this October. Mighton Products specialise in the design and manufacture of sash window hardware, and more importantly window systems that comply with Part L. With the new regulations coming out we have been working towards ensuring we have more products in place to enable our customers to meet the new legislation.

Here is a very basic overview of the new regulations for those of you who have not had chance to wade through the detail.

From October 2010 all windows will have to have a minimum whole window U value of 1.6.

Repairs are exempt
Replacement glass is exempt
Some historical properties may be exempt
You will have to prove that the windows you manufacture achieve 1.6 or better.
You will be required to maintain an audit scheme to prove that the correct materials have been used to achieve this.

How can you do this?

Have drawings prepared of your windows in DXF format
Submit these to a licensed simulator
Alter designs if necessary to achieve the required rating
Have a window tested for air penetration
Submit data to a test house for approval. (Mighton Products work with BM Trada)
Complete a satisfactory audit on your premises

Clearly there are costs involved at each of these stages. By working with Mighton Products you can reduce these costs considerably as we have already done most of the work and testing required.

How can Mighton help?

We have tested 4 window types with our hardware and weatherstripping
Ecotilt (Tilting sash window with balances)
Traditional sash with weights and pulleys(Non tilt)
Spiral balanced window (non tilt)
Safe T Tilt (budget tilt with balances
)

All four window types can achieve a U value greater than 1.6
All four types can achieve either a B or C rating

How does this help you?

Using our results you can prove that the window you manufacture will achieve the required U value.

What we will do for you

Authorise you to use our test results
Obtain a discounted audit rate from BM Trada for the audit fee
Supply you with constructional drawings to allow you to make the windows
Show you where to buy the glass
Supply you with an online audit system to satisfy the audit
Supply glass and timber cutting lists
Supply a list of hardware required
Show you how to register with the BFRC to obtain an energy rating if required
Provide Support throughout the process and thereafter

If you have any questions or would like to talk about how any of these systems may be of help to you, please contact Nick at Mighton on the details below.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards
