The Scottish Government recently held a consultation on a few elements of the Scottish Building Standards and the guidance given in the Technical Handbooks.
The full details of the proposed changes can be accessed here.
Much of the proposed amendments will have no effect on joinery manufacturers. However, there is a proposal to change the method of assessing the area of ventilators from geometric area to effective area but this change brings the measurement method in line with the method used in England. The BWF also responded to a view that background ventilation (trickle vents) should be provided at high and low level pointing out that ventilators are usually accommodated into the head of window and door frames and it would be difficult to accommodate a ventilator at a lower level.
