To celebrate the 15th anniversary of the BWF-CERTIFIRE Scheme, the BWF is holding a seminar at the Building Centre, Store Street, London on June 13th at 6:30pm.
The seminar will focus on many of the concerns associated with the specification and use of fire doors, particularly in light of the RRO (Regulatory Reform Order), and will highlight the use of third-party certificated fire doors. There will be presentations by the London Fire Brigade, and Brent Housing Partnership, highlighting some of the fire safety issues often faced by the two organisations.
The British Woodworking Federation-CERTIFIRE Fire Door and Doorset Scheme was established 15 years ago by a group of prime fire door manufacturers aiming to improve the standard of fire doors across the supply chain. It is also celebrating the successful labelling of 5 million fire doors in the last two years. .
However, Peter Johnson, chairman of the BWF-CERTIFIRE Scheme, is concerned about the construction industry’s understanding of the issues associated with the use of fire doors,
“Our questions to all building owners, facilities managers and specifiers are: How safe are your fire doors? And how do you know? Everyone involved in the manufacture, specification, sale, installation and maintenance of fire doors and doorsets needs to understand their roles and responsibilities when it comes to fire safety.
“Fire doors are a critical component in the protection of lives and property. They are part of a building’s passive fire protection system, an essential requirement for all social housing, public buildings, offices and factories.”
The event is aimed at architects, specifiers, developers, building owners and managers, builders merchants, fire door manufacturers and suppliers.
