The new citations list for harmonised standards was published on 8th April and EN 16034 is still showing that the start of the three year coexistence period is 1/9/2016. The anticipated delay in this date hasn't materialised, meaning that the date from which the CE marking of fire rated doorsets would be possible is, at the time of writing, 1st September 2016, with CE Marking set to be mandatory from 1st September 2019.

Update on CE marking of fire rated doorsetsRegarding the key associated standards enabling the CE marking of doorsets, our technical team have reported that.

– We have received the final draft of the proposed amendment to EN 14351-1:2006 + A1:2010 which has been officially issued for approval under UAP (unique acceptance procedure) and suggests a modification to the title, scope and the bibliography of the original standard. BSI has until 27 May 2016 to submit a vote approving or otherwise the publication of this proposed amendment.

– We have also received a new copy of the “final” draft of prEN14351-2 (Windows and doors – product standard, performance characteristics – part 2: Internal pedestrian doorsets). This new draft was issued on 15 March and has been submitted to CCMC (the CEN-CENELEC Management Centre). However, this draft will need to be assessed by the CEN CPR consultant, before it can be submitted for formal vote.

BWF is producing a full pack of guidance and template documents to support members as the requirements come in. The bulk of the work will be in adapting testing to meet the EU Standards, but we do see this having some impact on the market earlier, if only in confusing specifiers.

In a confusing world, our message to specifiers is therefore simple

When specifying fire doors, product should always be third party certificated and (from September 2019) doorsets CE Marked as appropriate.

If you need any help and advice related to certification of fire doors and specifically CE Marking, please contact the BWF Technical Helpline on 0844 209 2615.

Remember if you are making fire doors from blanks or modifying door leaves, changes to the BWF CERTIFIRE Scheme offer significant savings by becoming a Licensed Door Processor.
